Lasik is a common surgery to remove glasses these days. In Lasik we lift a thin hinged flap from your cornea and do corrective laser in the bed, then put the flap back. Flap gets attached to bed immediately. The main advantage of Lasik is fast and painless visual recovery.
In Epi-lasik no flap is made and laser is done on the corneal surface. The main advatages are-
- It can be done in thin corneas
- No flap is made , so it is not visible on examination of the eye, however, it can still be detected by specialized tests
Main disadvantages are-
- It can not be done for very high myopia
- There is post operative pain and need for pain killer for 3 days
- Visual recovery is slower
Epi- contoura is similar to epi-lasik except that we remove all the optical and corneal irregularities while removing the glass power. Main advantage is better quality of post-operative vision.
However, in your best interest you should discuss with your operating surgeon which procedure will be good for you.
