Service Overview

Retinal lasers use a focused light beam to treat the back of the eye. The heat seals leaking vessels, fences off weak areas in diabetic retinopathy, and welds the retina around a tear so it does not progress to detachment. Most sessions are done in the clinic with anaesthetic drops — no overnight stay.

What It Covers

Pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP)

Treats proliferative diabetic retinopathy and abnormal new vessels.

Focal / grid laser

Targets leaking spots in diabetic macular oedema when suitable.

Barrage laser for tears

Creates a weld around a retinal hole or tear to prevent detachment.

Vascular lesions

Selected vein occlusions and other leaking retinal conditions.

Who It Is For

Diabetic retinopathy

Patients with new vessels, bleeding, or leaking that needs laser control.

Flashes and floaters

People found to have a retinal tear on dilated exam.

Selected vein occlusions

When laser can reduce swelling or abnormal vessel growth.

How It Works

1

Dilated retina exam

OCT and clinical mapping show where laser spots are needed.

2

Numbing drops and contact lens

A lens steadies the eye while brief laser pulses are applied.

3

Aftercare

Mild ache or light sensitivity can last a day; follow-up confirms the seal.

Why Choose Our Laser Suite

Retinal lasers are planned by vitreoretinal surgeons using OCT and fundus findings — not as a one-size protocol. That keeps treatment focused on the leaking or torn areas while protecting as much healthy retina as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is retinal laser painful?

Most people feel pressure or brief pinpricks. Drops numb the surface; extra comfort measures are used if the session is longer.

Will laser improve my vision immediately?

Laser is mainly to protect remaining sight and prevent worsening. Vision may stay similar at first, then stabilise over weeks.

Can I go home the same day?

Yes. Arrange someone to accompany you if your pupils are dilated and you prefer not to drive.

Not sure which treatment is right for you?

Book a comprehensive eye evaluation. Our specialists will recommend the best course of action for your vision.
